“Victor Latvia U17” is triumphed only by Lithuanians

From April 19 to 21, the annual Badmitnon Europe U17 circuit tournament “Victor Latvia U17” was held in Liepāja, a coastal city in Latvia. Lithuanian badminton players won gold medals in all five badminton disciplines.

Lithuanians won 7 of 8 gold medals, 2 of 8 silver medals, as well as 8 of 16 bronze medals. Meanwhile, Finnish badminton players won 3 silver medals and 2 bronze, Estonians won 2 silver and 2 bronze, and Ukrainians won 1 gold and 1 bronze. The Belgians won one silver medal and the Swedes won one bronze medal. In the European and World ranking tournaments, 3rd place goes to the two semi-finalists who do not play in the final.

One of the 8 gold medals formally went to Ukraine, as Tymofii Kadiemin, currently living in Lithuania, won the mixed doubles together with the Lithuanian Aurelija Ramaneckaite

Players from all over the world entered the European U17 ranking badminton tournament, including Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Belgium, Ukraine, Poland, Cyprus, Sweden and New Zealand.

Unfortunately, the New Zealand player Tony Yu could not play in the tournament, because together with the accompanying mother Liliana were injured in a car accident on the way from Riga airport to Liepāja, both of them were hospitalized in Latvia with serious injuries.

At the same time as the European U17 ranking tournament, there were also competitions in other age groups, including U13, U15 and U21, as well as team tournaments in Badminton 100 relay format for U16 and U21 age groups.

The European U17 badminton tournament is held in Latvia for the sixth year in a row. This includes 2020 and 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic, when badminton competitions were canceled in many parts of the world. Liepāja hosted the U17 European Badminton Tournament for the third year in a row since 2022.

Until 2022, the tournament was sponsored by the badminton equipment manufacturer “Yonex”, but since 2023, the Latvian Badminton Federation has a new sponsor – “Victor”. Since then, the tournament has been known as «Victor Latvia U17».
